NIU promotes new coach in web series, ‘Doeren Discovers’

Many schools are using their own websites as a way to make their players and coaches more personable and Northern Illinois is jumping on the trend.

Meet newish head coach Dave Doeren.

He's been on campus since December, but he wants to make sure fans know the real him, the accessible him. So, the university decided to put together a webisode series called "Doeren Discovers" chronicling Doeren's adventures in the Chicago area:

"I thought it was a good way to build some momentum and energy about the upcoming season, and it also shows that I'm serious when I say I'm willing to do anything it takes to get people to come out and support this team," Doeren said in a release."Plus I get a chance to mark some things off my bucket list all in one year."

The series has six weekly episodes and while there's no skydiving (at least that we know of), the first episode gives a behind the scenes look at Doeren preparing to sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at Wrigley Field.

While Doeren, who was the Wisconsin defensive coordinator, might be innovative off the field, he'll have a lot to live up to on it. His predecessor Jerry Kill, who left NIU for Minnesota, led the Huskies to a bowl game in all three of his seasons, which is as many as the school had been to in its history.
