Add a Windows 8 user tile to your Windows 7 taskbar

Now that Windows 8 images have begun leaking out, it's only a matter of time until developers start releasing mods for Windows 7 which mimic upcoming features. Over at Into Windows, they've spotted one such mod already.

In the earliest Windows 8 images, we saw Windows Live integration on the taskbar. In the far right corner, there's a user tile displayed. If you'd like to do the same on Windows 7, download Taskbar User Tile from DeviantArt user AngelWZR.

Once installed, your current picture will appear on the taskbar. Click it, and a menu appears which allows you to log off, switch users, and access the control panel. Right now, the mod only works if your taskbar is displayed on the bottom of your Windows desktop.

Archos G9 tablets to ship in September

Microsoft releases sexy Bing app for iPad

It's still a bit odd seeing Microsoft deliver apps for Apple's mobile platform. And it's even stranger still to see one as sexy as the new Bing app for iPad, which brings a slick, immersive search experience to Apple's tablet.

Just as a regular search on bing.com will, the Bing app for iPad tailors the results it displays based on what you're searching for. There are loads of custom views, covering everything from movies and maps to weather and shopping. The app also offers a heads-up display of currently trending searches, complete with related images, which is an iPad-exclusive feature.

Navigation is a breeze thanks to multitouch controls, allowing users to flick or swipe through results. And while the development team refers to the app as "touch and decide," Bing Voice Search is also built in -- making it easy to start a query without using the iPad's on-screen keyboard.

The Bing app for iPad is available for download now from the App Store.

Headlinin?: LSU, Cal put Oregon?s Willie Lyles fee in perspective

Making the morning rounds.

? Sounds like a bargain. LSU paid $6,000 for 32 DVDs of legitimate recruiting film from Willie Lyles, the Houston-based scout who was paid a whopping $25,000 by Oregon for a shoddy, out-of-date scouting report he claims was meant to cover for the Ducks' efforts to improperly exploit his influence with several key recruits. LSU released copies of the DVDs Thursday to the (Portland) Oregonian, which found that they included exactly what Lyles said they did. Cal also paid Lyles $5,000 for a scouting report, and like LSU, believes it has nothing to worry about from the NCAA. LSU has even passed the materials on to investigators.

Then again, respect the depths: Lyles has also been connected to former LSU star Patrick Peterson, on whose behalf he allegedly requested a five-figure payment from Texas A&M in 2008. [The Oregonian, San Jose Mercury News, Associated Press]

? Yeah, I'd probably fire me, too. Irascible L.A. Times columnist Bill Plaschke lays out the minimum standard for Rick Neuheisel to save his job at UCLA beyond the upcoming season: Finish .500 or better and play in a bowl game. And Rick Neuheisel basically agrees. "I hate talking like that, but, as an alumni, I would say absolutely yes," Neuheisel said Thursday. "Obviously, I've had a number of conversations like, 'Hey, you're on the hot seat, you're the No. 1 guy on the hot seat.' ? A friend of mine said to me, 'You were a great coach, you won a lot of games, what did you do? Do what you do!' " [Los Angeles Times]

? This is not what we mean by "Fighting" Illini. Illinois signee Chris Jones, a 310-pound defensive lineman from Jacksonville, Fla., pleaded not guilty Thursday to felony aggravated battery. Jones was charged in a July 3 attack on two men who claim Jones shouted anti-gay slurs and assaulted them for their sexual orientation, leaving both with facial injuries. [Chicago Tribune]

? What about Dr? SEC coaches released their preseason all-conference team Thursday with no surprises, except one: Alabama cornerback Dr Kirkpatrick, a former five-star recruit and possible top-10 draft pick next April, is relegated to third team by the same coaches who voted him second-team All-SEC last December after his first season as a starter in one of the top secondaries in the country. One possible explanation: With 10 other 'Bama players on the first and second teams, they were just trying to spread the wealth. [SECSports.com]

? Hey, I know we said we needed you over here, but... The premature departures of leading rushers Washaun Ealy and Caleb King has forced Georgia to move linebacker Richard Samuel back to running back, where he spent his first two seasons in Athens in 2008-09. The move is strictly for depth ?incoming freshman Isaiah Crowell is the starter from the moment he sets foot on campus ?and will probably force Samuel to drop the 15-20 extra pounds he added in the original switch. [Atlanta Journal Constitution]

Quickly? ESPN is moving Mike Bellotti up in its announcer rotation. ? Florida State picks up a commitment from one of the fastest teenagers in America. ? Austin Scott isn't giving up his legal fight against Penn State just yet. ? Chaz Ramsey continues his legal crusade against Auburn. ? Dismissed Tiger running back Eric Smith still hopes to return to the team. ? Nu'Keese Richardson has been arrested again. ? Miami players are getting into police cars voluntarily. ? When is Michigan going to retire Desmond Howard's number already? ? And if these are the best entries to the Detroit Free Press' Wolverine mascot contest, I'd hate to see what was rejected.

Windows 8 now available to OEMs via Microsoft Connect

windows 8Select Microsoft Connect partners -- major players like HP -- have been given their first taste of Windows 8. According to various sources, the build string currently sits at 7971.0.110324-1900, which is the third milestone build of the successor to Windows 7.

So far, there haven't been many details revealed about Windows 8. An actual System Restore -- which is being referred to as History Vault -- has been reported, and the feature will allow users and administrators to completely roll back a system to a previous state. A factory reset option is also said to be included.

We've also seen Windows Live integration taking shape on the desktop. It's believed that you'll be able to log in to Windows 8 using your Windows Live credentials, not just a traditional offline Windows username and password.

All that's left now is for a leaked Windows 8 build to show up on a torrent site. Feel free to tip us if you see that happen.

TweetDeck to launch as HTML5 Web app, now accepting beta testers

When TweetDeck landed in the Chrome Web Store, it seemed like an indication that it might eventually evolve into a pure HTML5 Web app. Now it looks as though that's exactly what's going to happen, with TweetDeck announcing that a new, not-just-for-Chrome Web client is ready for beta testing.

It's a natural progression for TweetDeck, especially since its originally Adobe Air app is practically all Web code. TweetDeck Web will sport a feature set which is nearly identical to the Chrome app, with the notable exception of Twitter streaming.

Initially, TweetDeck is targeting Firefox 4 and 3.6, Google Chrome, and Safari. Opera and Internet Explorer 9 won't be invited to the dance until a bit later on.

If you'd like to get in on the TweetDeck Web beta, head on over and register -- or sign up using your existing TweetDeck account.

Yuki Takahashi has topped the timesheets in third session of free practice for the Moto2 class at the Sachsenring, the Gresini rider keeping local favorite Stefan Bradl firmly behind him. The Viessmann Kiefer rider ended up in 2nd, a tenth behind Takahashi, but with a comfortable margin over 3rd place man Julian Simon, undergoing a remarkable return to racing after shattering his leg at Barcelona. Bradley Smith ended the session as 4th fastest, finishing ahead of Aleix Espargaro and Swiss rider Thomas Luthi.

Alex Morgan scores, boy in stands imitates Brandi Chastain

Alex Morgan came off the bench for the U.S. to finally break the deadlock in the Women's World Cup final in the 70th minute after so many near misses for her side. In the euphoria of her excellent finish, a young boy in the crowd lifted up his shirt like Brandi Chastain did after winning the 1999 World Cup (11 seconds into the video). The only difference being that his version was hilarious. And he was not wearing a sports bra.

Japan went on to score an equalizer in the 80th minute because of a terrible bit of defending from the U.S., sending the match to extra time. Abby Wambach's trademark header in the 104th minute gave the kid a chance to do it again before Japan eventually equalized for a second time and won the ensuing penalty shootout. At which point he probably kept his shirt on.

Firemint's Rob Murray on blurring the line between desktop and tablet

148Apps is conducting a series of interviews with major iOS developers, and Rob Murray of Firemint is their latest target, with a few thoughts on the future directions of the games he's developing. Murray says mobile gaming isn't growing up into desktop technology -- it's the other way around. The technology we now use on the desktop will soon just be found right in handheld computers, according to Murray. "People will choose the mobile because it's convenient, portable, and it's personal."

That puts Firemint, developer of mobile apps and innovation around mobile interfaces, in a good place, of course. But Murray doesn't mean that we'll only be using iPads and iPhones in the future, just that the hardware they'll interact with will grow thinner and thinner. As a developer, however, Murray isn't quite there yet -- he uses a MacBook Pro with both Windows and OS X on it.

Finally, Murry fits in a plug for the upcoming Spy Mouse title, which is his job, of course, but it does look like it'll be fun (and Firemint clearly knows how to make successful iOS games). Interesting, if a little short, chat with the Firemint CEO.

New Leach book lands Bruce Feldman on suspension, and ESPN in media crosshairs (Updated)

When Bruce Feldman signed on to write a book with Mike Leach in 2009, he probably knew it was a coup ? Feldman had produced a pair of successful college football books already, and Leach had more than proven himself as one of the most intriguing characters in the sport even before proving himself as the most successful coach in Texas Tech history. But he couldn't have known just how fateful this particular project would eventually prove, on both sides of the coin.

Initially, it was lucky: Leach's bizarre, high-profile ouster from Tech that winter and subsequent court battle against his former employers guaranteed interest beyond the coach's cult of oddball admirers. Thursday, however, Feldman's luck appeared to turn when he was reportedly suspended indefinitely from his day job as a reporter for ESPN, barring him from writing, tweeting, appearing on television or radio or otherwise comporting himself under the network banner.

The network hasn't issued an official statement, but the radio silence from Feldman's usually active Twitter feed in the face of an overwhelming response from his colleagues (the ones who don't work at ESPN, anyway) tells the tale. So does the timing: The decision to put Feldman on ice comes just days after the Leach book, "Swing Your Sword," hit the shelves, and multiple excerpts began appearing on the web, including on Yahoo! Sports' online magazine, ThePostGame ?every single one of them quoting Leach's scathing rebuke to ESPN for favoring the narrative pushed by its employee, Craig James.

It was James who initially appealed to (or, depending on your perspective, conspired with) Texas Tech officials with complaints that Leach mistreated his son, sophomore wide receiver Adam James, after Adam suffered a concussion in practices for the 2010 Alamo Bowl. In multiple on-air interviews, Craig James presented himself as a parent concerned about his son's safety under an unhinged coach. Leach called the younger James spoiled, lazy and entitled, and his father a meddlesome "Little League dad" who offered university officials the opportunity to attack Leach they had been looking for since a round of contentious contract talks earlier that year. The coach accused ESPN's coverage of skewing too heavily toward the former perspective, and his book pulls no punches:

From the moment Tech suspended me to the time my firing was announced, there was a flood of media reports revealing all these "details" about things I'd supposedly done. ESPN's Joe Schad was just spewing this stuff that Craig James and Spaeth Communications [a PR firm hired by James] were feeding him: "Alleged electrical closet" ... "Alleged electrical closet" ... "YouTube video of Adam James in the alleged electrical closet is available" ... "I'm told the alleged electrical closet is approximately 4 x 10 feet."

Then "SportsCenter" showed Adam's YouTube video from the electrical closet. Too bad they never said Adam went in that electrical closet after he was specifically told not to go in there. [?]

On top of that, you had all these analysts, who were colleagues of Craig James, weighing in on ESPN. They had no knowledge of the facts. Obviously, they weren't even concerned about the facts. They just took everything that Craig James, through Spaeth Communications, was feeding them, and kept repeating it over and over, during every pre-game show, every halftime show, every post-game show, and during "SportsCenter." This went on for days.

There were a number of exchanges between my agents and ESPN. But ESPN was more interested in presenting the fantastical story by Spaeth Communications. They weren't just showing one side of the story, they were perpetuating falsehoods.

There were statements out there from Adam James's two position coaches, Dana Holgorsen and Lincoln Riley. There was a statement from the strength coach, Bennie Wylie. There were statements from three of James's teammates -- players that had been successful in the program and had witnessed Adam's behavior, as well as mine. CBSSports.com and other media outlets chose to run those statements. ESPN, which also had them, chose not to. When one of my agents asked Joe Schad, the ESPN reporter, why they neglected to report those statements, he said he didn't see how they were relevant to the story. But when Craig James gave Schad Adam's cell number so he could hand the phone over to his roommate Chris Perry, a back-up lineman whom we'd suspended twice, his statement was considered relevant.

Those words belong to Leach, not Feldman, who acted as a filter for his subject with his boss' explicit permission. They're not surprising, considering Leach has been pursuing a libel suit against the network on the same grounds since last November. They're also not very far removed from the conclusion of ESPN's own ombudsman, Don Ohlmeyer, who chided the network's broadcast of the 2010 Alamo Bowl for operating on "the premise that Adam James was an innocent bystander" and "basically ignor[ing]" Leach's side of the story.

This time, though, they seem to have struck a raw nerve. Feldman, a widely respected mainstay at ESPN.com from its inception 15 years ago, now faces an uncertain future at the company he helped put on the map as a journalistic entity, apparently for the sin of practicing inconvenient journalism.

Meanwhile, the widely disliked Craig James will remain on your television this fall on a weekly basis, whooping over big hits, collapsing after workouts with Jesse Palmer and grasping for reasons to drop Boise State in the polls. That is, unless he decides to run for senator.

Unfortunately for ESPN, there's one other inconvenient fact that is always certain: Journalists rallying to the defense of other journalists. Feldman's name quickly became a trending topic overnight on Twitter, where all of his non-ESPN colleagues ? that is, his competitors ?huddled under the #FreeBruce hashtag to stand in the corner of a guy they consider one of the most humble, personable and professional in the business. Their protests and small-scale boycotts may or may not mean anything in boardrooms and other dank executive lairs. But if the puppet masters at the "Worldwide Leader" thought they could deflect negative publicity by punishing an attack on the brand, they have badly miscalculated.

[UPDATE, 11:43 a.m. ET: Craig James responded to the mounting outrage this morning with a tweet from his own account, @craigjames32, disclaiming responsibility for the suspension: "Respected colleague & friend of Feldman since early 90's. Surprised! Saw this in news like y'all"]

[UPDATE, 3:44 p.m. ET: ESPN has issued an official statement this afternoon reporting that "Bruce has resumed his assignments."]

Defining Games: Boise?s next dream season is at stake, but Georgia has more to lose

Looking ahead to the biggest games of the 2011 season. Today: Boise State vs. Georgia in Atlanta on Sept. 3. Part of Mid-Major Week.

Six years ago, Boise State was an up-and-coming curiosity coming off the best season in school history, an 11-1 run that came up just shy of perfection in the 2004 Liberty Bowl, and just beginning to enter the national consciousness for the first time ?you know, the wide-open offense, the blue turf, the toothy grins, et cetera. At that point, it had never beaten a major-conference team outside of Boise, much less a traditional SEC heavy in its own backyard. Which is what the season-opening trip to Georgia in 2005 was all about: Is the rest of the country really supposed to take these guys seriously, or what?

The resounding answer then was: Not really. Georgia crushed the Broncos, 48-13, to jump-start its run to the SEC championship, and most Bulldog fans ?and SEC fans in general ? didn't seemed to think the question was worth asking again.

In 2011, with Boise poised to open another season of high expectations in the Bulldogs' backyard on Sept. 3, the question is probably still not worth asking. But this time, that's only because the Broncos have spent the last five years answering it every possible turn. Since 2006, they're 7-3 against teams that finished the season in the final polls, 4-1 against teams that finished in the top ten. They're 2-0 in BCS games, and have opened the last two seasons with wins over heavy hitters that ended up in the BCS as champions of one of the major conferences. They've won at least a share of seven of the last eight WAC championships, are unanimously favored to take the Mountain West crown in their first season there and have dropped all of three games they were favored to win in eight years. They're favored to win against Georgia in Atlanta on Sept. 3, which would have been barely conceivable in 2005.
That's the difference between "up and coming" and "arrived." Boise State is going to open the season in the top five for the second year in a row, with a reigning Heisman Trophy finalist under center: The Broncos have arrived.

At this point, The Big Question for Boise shouldn't be whether it can hang with the proverbial big dogs in some elemental, program-defining sense ?though apparently it still is for enough skeptics to move a six-point line in the Broncos' favor to a 1.5-point line in a matter of hours ?but whether it can once again maneuver past the first obstacle in its path to another BCS bid. In other words, just like any other contender going into a big game.

In fact, if either team is facing something like an existential moment in the Georgia Dome, it's the Bulldogs, who are all too aware their own selves that it's not 2005 anymore. It's not even 2008: Since opening on top of the preseason polls three years ago, Georgia has staggered through escalating stages of disappointment, beginning with the kind that comes from an obviously missed opportunity and continuing last year with the kind that comes from enduring your first losing season in more than a decade. This is a team that's underachieved to various degrees three years in a row, and sent multiple bodies overboard ?a defensive coordinator and a pair of assistants, a longtime strength coach ? in its efforts to stay afloat. It also begins the season as a team that's lost eight of its last ten against ranked opponents, and that lost its last game to Central Florida.

If the Bulldogs come out of the dome with a win, the "S-E-C!" chants will probably be drowned out by the sighs of relief. None of them louder than the one breathed by Mark Richt.

As for Boise, a win would put the Broncos back on the familiar track of handling their business as overwhelming conference favorites: Aside from the Nov. 12 visit from TCU, they'll be favored by double digits in every game en route to a presumed 12-0 finish. If they get to that point with wins over Georgia and TCU on the resum, the biggest question won't be "Are they good enough to play for a championship?" but "Who else is there with them?" Of course, no level of respect for Boise State at the end of the year will be enough to lift the Broncos above an undefeated "Big Six" school. And of course, there will still be plenty of voters who refuse to consider the Broncos even over more familiar powerhouses with a blemish.

When many of those same voters are now willing to put BSU among the national elite before the year, though, they're conceding that it belongs in that stratosphere from the start. If it beats a traditional SEC heavy in its own backyard, yes, Boise State is good enough to play for a national championship. Whatever happens from there, it will happen with the Broncos in the driver's seat.

App Store downloads overtake iTunes music downloads

Right after Apple's announcement that App Store downloads had passed 15 billion, Asymco ran some numbers and concluded that App Store downloads have surpassed iTunes music downloads. Asymco based its conclusion on Apple's announcement only one month earlier that iTunes song downloads had passed 15 billion. Since App Store downloads have grown at a far faster rate than music downloads over the life of both stores, Asymco's most likely correct that app downloads have passed song downloads.

According to Asymco's data, app downloads amount to at least 31 million per month, while around 12 million songs are downloaded each month. That's an explosive rate of growth for the App Store, especially since it took nearly seven years for music downloads to pass 15 billion while app downloads passed the same milestone in three years.

To get a visual idea of how quickly the App Store's taken off compared to music downloads, head to Asymco and check out the data graphs. But while you're there, try not to snicker at the tiny orange line representing iBooks downloads...

Culinary union blocking MMA?s efforts in N.Y.: Fertitta says union is hurting its own members

MMA's legalization in New York is on hold again. A bill that would've approved the sport passed again in the state senate, but stalled in the assembly. UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta has worked for years to change the attitudes in the Empire State, but there's a force outside of the legislators that he says is holding up the entire process, the Culinary Union.

"Unfortunately in life and in politics things aren't always what they seem on the surface. It's not about MMA. It's about the fact that the Culinary Union is obviously very strong in New York. They have a strong political base there. They have been there forever and they are holding this bill up," Fertitta told "The MMA Insiders" on ESPNRadio1100 in Las Vegas.

Fertitta and his brother Frank also own Station Casinos which is one of the two largest non-union employers in the gaming industry. Fertitta said the economic impact that New York is missing out on each time the UFC would come to the state is staggering. He said when the promotion held UFC 129 in Toronto it pumped $45 million into the city's economy.

"The fact that [the Culinary Union] opposing this, at the end of the day, they're only hurting their own members which really doesn't make any sense," said Fertitta.

Fertitta says the votes are there to legalize MMA in N.Y. and residents are surprised when told why it hasn't already happened.

"Whenever I talk to or get in front of people who are residents of the state of New York, and you tell them what's going on, they're appalled. They're flabbergasted," Fertitta said. "It's just crazy that the Culinary Union would have enough political power to basically keep the democratic process from playing out."

UFC president Dana White is a little more blunt in expressing his feelings about the work of the union.

Bone comic now available on Comixology

Jeff Smith's Bone comic is one of my favorite series ever -- it skillfully combines an epic fantasy story with some hilarious cartoon characters, making for a really solid tale that will appeal to all kinds of readers. And now the series is fully available in a digital format for the first time, thanks to iOS app developer Comixology.

Comixology has been making a lot of great deals on their Comics app, and this Bone deal, selling all 55 issues of the series for just a buck each, is one of the better ones they've made lately. The first issue of the series is also up for a free download, and another series by creator Jeff Smith called Rasl is also available, with the first issue for free, and subsequent issues on sale until July 19th.

We knew a lot time ago that comics on the iPad would be one of the tablet's greatest assets, and the Comixology app has a lot of great funnies to read, from all kinds of different publishers. The app is free on the App Store right now.

Bone comic now available on Comixology originally appeared on TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog on Fri, 15 Jul 2011 18:30:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Debriefing: Evolving Mountain West still defined by clash of the titans

The least you need to know about the Mountain West Conference. Part of Mid-Major Week.

? Same as the old boss. The conference may resent the implications for its ongoing quest for a better seat at the BCS table, but it's hard to remember the last time the Mountain West wasn't a lopsided conference dominated by two or three teams in an entirely different class than the rest. Since TCU came aboard as the MWC's ninth member in 2005, the "Big Three" ? BYU, TCU and Utah ?combined to go 106-20 against the rest of the league and took turns hoisting the next six conference championships. (Eight, if you count Utah's back-to-back titles under Urban Meyer in 2003-04. The last time the MWC was carried by one of the "Little Six": Colorado State in 2002.) The Cougars, Horned Frogs and Utes finished in the top 25 eleven times in that span, four times in the top ten. The rest of the league appeared in the polls for a grand total of two weeks.

The number at the top is smaller this year, with Boise State's arrival from the WAC offsetting Utah and BYU's departures for the Pac-12 and independence, respectively, but the gap is as wide as ever. Boise and TCU have cut parallel courses as kingpins of the Have-Not circuit, both turning in multiple unbeaten regular seasons and BCS appearances, and both taking 23 of their last 24 conference games. TCU goes into the season with 17 straight wins in Mountain West play dating back to 2008; before its last second loss at Nevada last November, Boise had won 22 straight in the WAC, all but one by double digits.

? Actually, in this case, "they" really are against you. When the Broncos and Horned Frogs' paths cross again on Nov. 12, then, the winner is in the driver's seat not only for the Mountain West crown, but also for the at-large BCS berth the MWC champ has earned each of the last three years ?and maybe, if the chips fall exactly right, even a spot in the BCS Championship Game. Clearly, the conference wants the winner to be Boise State.

Nothing personal against TCU. But this happens to be the Horned Frogs' last season in the conference before they hop to the Big East in 2012. It also happens to be the last season in the crucial 2008-11 BCS evaluation period, the results of which will be fed into a formula to determine which conferences get one of the coveted automatic berths in the big money bowls for their respective champions beginning in 2013. The Mountain West desperately wants to be one of those conferences, and for one time only, it gets to claim the successes of both Boise State and TCU over the 2008-11 evaluation period. Last year, however, was the start of another evaluation period, encompassing 2010-13. The MWC gets to count Boise State's record in those years as part of its own numbers, but not TCU's: The Horned Frogs' record over that span will be transferred to the Big East ? the conference whose automatic bid the Mountain West hopes to take for itself.

So the MWC did the only thing it could do: It voted to move the TCU-Boise State date from Forth Worth to Boise, where the Broncos haven't lost a regular season game in a decade, specifically to improve their chances of winning and bolstering the conference's BCS cred after this year. Good luck, Frogs!

? Falcons crest. The biggest beneficiary of the downsizing from "Big Three" to "Big Two" is Air Force, which has easily been the best of the conference's second tier under coach Troy Calhoun: Since he was hired in 2007, Air Force is 3-9 against BYU, TCU and Utah (two of those wins coming in '07) and 18-2 against everyone else. The Academy has yet to lose under Calhoun to a team that finished with fewer than eight wins.

Last year, the Falcons came within three points of upsetting Oklahoma, five points of upsetting then-undefeated Utah and two points of knocking off upstart San Diego State, which kept them from Air Force's first 10-win season since 1998. This year, an upset in South Bend on Oct. 8 could put them on the path to a double-digit win column before the end of the regular season.

? Rams on parade. Fair warning: There's a better than even chance you're going to wake up on Nov. 1, glance at the standings and see the numbers "7-1" next to Colorado State. If you do, it's not a typo. True, the Rams have only won six games combined over the last two seasons, but their non-conference schedule ?Northern Colorado, Colorado, Utah State, San Jose State, UTEP ?is a golden opportunity for at least four wins, and two of the first three MWC games are against bottom dwellers New Mexico and UNLV. Over the first two months, only Boise State looks like a certain loss.

The story should change in a hurry, with San Diego State, TCU and Air Force waiting down the stretch. But CSU should already be bowl-eligible by then, and coach Steve Fairchild should already be making plans to be back in Fort Collins for Year Four.

? . Via (who else?) Nike, Wyoming in unveiling nine new jersey combinations ?at least three of which will feature the elusive brown helmet:

?

Considering what they're working with there, color-wise, that's probably about as much as the Pokes can hope for.
