When compared to the Motorola XOOM’s pricing, an iPad 2 may seem like a bargain, but it’s still not a cheap investment by any means. Starting at $499 for the lowest end model, your iPad 2 certainly deserves some extra loving care. The new Fender iPad 2 bumper from Quirky can be a good option that is not only affordable but is also designed to work perfectly with Apple’s Smart Covers.
The Smart Covers do a good job of protecting the front side, but leaves your iPad 2 exposed on the back. Fender provides a clear plastic shield for the backside along with rubber bumpers on each corner. It is made of clear frosted ABS plastic with gray rubber corners and a thin gray rubber border on the back side. It snaps in place to fit on the iPad 2 and doesn’t fully encase the device.
Hence, it works in tandem with Apple’s Smart Covers with strategic cut-outs on the side for the Smart Cover to properly attach and function. It is currently listed at $18 and is available for pre-orders only on Quirky. It will be available once it hits their presale threshold to qualify for production.
