Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• Well, ain't that always the way it works: You have your clever "Eat More Wings" sign ready for its moment in the lower bowl, and someone shows up to the Dallas Stars game with an awesome tribute to Steve Ott that gets all the attention. Worst. Birthday. Ever.

• Interesting night at the United Center tonight, as Antti Niemi makes his first visit back to Chicago as a member of the Sharks ... and having already beaten them once this season. Said Niemi: "I'm not mad. ... It didn't go like I expected." [Between The Circles]

• Battle of California not really feeling the San Jose Sharks lately, heading into their game against the Chicago Blackhawks: "The two Western Conference finalists from last season currently sit at 7th and 8th in the West, tied with 43 points. The points situation in the West is still really close, but not as close as it was. Dallas has 48 points, steadily pulling away from the struggling Sharks. This is a problem." [Battle of Cali]

• Five reasons to love the Blackhawks. [THW]

• The Winter Classic coverage schedule from NHL Network. Really impressive lineup of coverage starting in Friday. Save for that whole "not covering Mario's game live" stuff. [NHL Network]

• Speaking of which, the final rosters are locked for the alumni game. Too bad it's not in the playoffs, because John Druce is playing for the Caps. [NHL]

Benstonium's Winter Classic commercial outtakes are hilarious.

• Claude Julien of the Boston Bruins on the struggles if his No. 1 line: "You have a choice of either working with them and trying to get that line going, because you know what the potential is. Or you blow it up. We're not ready to blow it up quite this second." [Bruins Blog]

• The Edmonton Oilers lose defenseman Ryan Whitney for at least two weeks with an ankle injury ... but there's still a chance he could require surgery. D'oh. [Oilers]
