The holidays are over, though they didn't pass without a handful of memorable hoops highlights, both from long distance and in the paint, not to mention a pair of very deep soccer goals that finally came to surface.
• Lucas Brown, Roseville (Calif.) vs. Lake Forest (Calif.): Roseville needed a full-court miracle to eke out a halftime lead against Lake Forest, and Brown had just enough time to deliver.
• Alexa Lienhard, Bishop McGuinness (Okla.) vs. Cache (Okla.): Lienhard didn't just nail an impressive half-court buzzer beater, she nailed an impressive half-court buzzer beater against the state's top-ranked team, ableit in a narrow loss.
• Brandon Morris, Miller Grove (Ga.) vs. Columbus (Ga.): Leave it to highly-touted national recruit Brandon Morris to turn a wildly errant last second prayer into a last gasp winner against fellow Georgia high-rising squad Columbus.
• Greg Brown, Spalding (Md.) vs. Bullis (Md.): Topping a regional power like Bullis is no small feat. It's even more impressive when that upset happens at Bullis' own holiday tournament, and includes a near-miraculous, flustered, turn-around three-pointer at the buzzer to eke out a 52-51 win.
• Alex Murphy, St. Marks (Mass.) vs. Academy of the New Church (Penn.): At 6-foot-8, Alex Murphy is no shorty, still, the forward's dunk over 7-foot, UNC-commit Malcolm Gilbert at the City of Palms tournament turned plenty of heads.
• Shaquille Johnson, Alpharetta-Milton (Ga.): Shaquille Johnson didn't win the City of Palms Classic dunk contest, but one could make a strong case that he deserved it based on this series of dunks, including a hop over 6-foot-8 James McAdoo.
• Some anonymous high school dunk contest winner (Tenn.): We have no idea who this high school dunk contest winner from the state of Tennessee is, and apparently the filmer didn't know who it was, either. Still, whoever the mystery dunker is, he threw down an impressively creative dunk by leaping over the ball rack before reaching the rim.
• Adam Zoellner, Shawnee Mission Northwest (Mo.) vs. Shawnee Mission North (Mo.): Sure, the Missouri boys soccer season wrapped up awhile ago, but that doesn't mean we can't bring out this gem of a goal, which provides ample proof of why a goaltender should never go too far out of his cage to chase a loose ball. After all, that's what wing backs are for.
• Horacio Abaroa, Northland Christian School (Texas): We're not sure in which game Horacio Abaroa connected on this fantastic 40-yard volley of a goal, but we know it came in fall league competition and was, as either the videographer or a nearby bystander dubbed it, a "Golazo! Golazo! Golazo!"
